Hyundai Coupe appeared on our streets recently - about six months ago. This is perhaps the first Korean sports compartment, which corresponds to ideas about this type of car.
But how successfully it turns out in reality, we decided to find out by arranging a pair test along with Fiat Coupe. After all, Italians know a lot about sports cars, and most importantly - they can do them.
Beauty is a terrible force
So, design. For a sports car, it is especially important. Italy is a recognized Mecca of Automobile Fashion: here is the majority of leading body ateliers. And one of the most famous - Pininfarina - just attached a hand to the creation of Fiat Coupe. On the other hand, Korea. In the designer tables about the ranks, it is almost at the opposite pole, and the phrase Asian appearance in application to the car does not serve as a sign of quality.
So, Hyundai is doomed to defeat in advance for the obvious advantage of the opponent, and we - to use vulgar comparisons such as a ugly duckling - a wonderful swan? - we worried the day before. But the very next day, when the cars stood nearby, we were not able to come to a consensus, who is better - Matru was not able to crush the beginner by authority.
Despite the frankly Asian facial features of Hyundai Coupe, it is impossible to say about him that he is dull and faceless. On the contrary, the appearance of the Korean is very extraordinary, with unusually plastic forms. It seems that in front of us is a muscular type with a cocky character. At the same time, the designers managed to withstand the style of the tip of the nose to the exhaust pipe.
Fiat, being completely original and not like anything in design, managed to preserve at the same time ... They almost said conservatism. No. Conservatism is far away here. He retained some amazing severity of the lines. His charm is achieved by completely different visual means. And through a completely non -classical appearance, traditions are still visible. In a word, the hand of the master is still felt.
In both cars, the interior style is an organic continuation of their appearance. Only accents are shifted a little. If the muscular exterior of the Hyundai Coupe does not really want to call the bio-design that has already become almost abusing the term, then the salon here is not just the kingdom of this bio-design itself, but the full Biodesign Unlimited. However, it is still impossible to complain. Unlike the fed soap in the appearance of other machines, extreme interior plastic does not yet cause such feelings. On the contrary, very funny. And convenient.
Fiat, on the contrary, is more traditional inside than outside. A strip painted in the front panel, through which separate round devices peeps in the front panel, is a completely forgotten classic.
The remaining differences are less significant: the Hyundai is adjusted in height a driver’s seat, but Fiat changes the position of the steering column in height and length; On the combination of Fiat devices, there are pressure indicators and oil temperature, and Hyundai boasts the presence of a hook control ... (of course, all this applies to cars in those trim levels that we have with us.)
Access to the luggage compartment of the Hyundai Coupe opens a large rear hatch on which the anti-wing with an additional feet signal is mounted. The dimensions of the trunk (already quite decent for a small compartment) easily increase thanks to folding (separately) rear seats. So, going on a trip, you can load everything you need in Hyundai.
Fiat Coupe has a trunk separated from the cabin. And although it is almost not inferior to Hendovsky in size, it does not have such possibilities. The biggest thing that can be afforded in Fiat is to throw back the back of one of the rear seats, behind which a small hatch leading to the trunk is hidden.
An autopsy will show
The external inspection of the subjects not only did not reveal any contraindications for sports, but, on the contrary, confirmed their good physical shape and approximately equal potential. It is impossible to seriously perceive the difference in the power of engines in 1 liter. With. And the rest of the technical parameters differ to about the same extent. If they differ at all. So we will check better the cars in the case.
Fiat immediately demonstrated character, making it clear that he would have to get used to it. No, we did not feel any special inconvenience in driving a machine. Well, maybe because of the wide wheel arches, the pedals are a little cramped. Moreover, the close location of the gas and the brake turned out to be very convenient, but the clutch could be moved.
I immediately liked the very short passages of the gear lever, but again they took some time to get used to it. As well as a loving speed engine. He is not at all impressive on the bottoms, but as soon as he wakes up, there is a desire to go quickly. And for this you have to constantly switch the programs. And then it gives real pleasure.
The only thing that did not require addiction was the steering that turned out to be so convenient in acuity and reactions that at first they did not even pay attention to it. And they remembered only when they moved to Hyundai and began to draw parallels.
In the Korean compartment, I did not have to get used to anything. I picked up a convenient landing, set up mirrors, went. Everything happens the first time - as if I had drove all my life on this car.
Everything is explained simply: Hyundai Coupe has a much more elastic engine that is confidently pulling from low revolutions, and therefore leaves more space in choosing programs and does not force at first to think about it all the time. Plus, a more traditional arrangement of governing bodies is the whole secret. But the steering wheel here is noticeably more quickly and, perhaps, a little easier than that of Fiat.
In behavior on the road, the difference is manifested even more noticeably. The hard suspension of Fiat Coupe checks the strength of your spine literally on every suture of the roadway. But in the bend there is an amazing car. And there is always a feeling that even if you take it a little stronger, it will not break into sliding, but simply switch to a smaller radius. Fiat is also clearly and understandable in the bend of gas. True, there is also the merit of the Viskooft, installed in the drive of the front wheels.
Hyundai Coupe has noticeably softer and comfortable. What affected the handling - Hyundai earlier and more willingly goes into lateral sliding. But this process itself develops very smoothly, easily allowing you to catch a car not even a too experienced driver.
In general, with almost the same dynamics of both Hyundai Coupe cars, it is more convenient and easy to control, and fiat - great capabilities in marginal modes, demanding in return for constant clear control by the driver. Well, who is more to your liking - decide for yourself.

Both coupes that we talk about this time are by no means deprived of the attention of the world buyer. And at the same time, they are just starting to get acquainted with the Russian buyer.

It turned out, maybe not so beautiful, but interesting. Fiat was exposed to dangers when a new 5-cylinder engine was placed on it. As one of the first owners of a new more powerful compartment said in an interview, Fiat tried to change everything else so that it corresponded to the new motor. Nevertheless, the coolest compartment is not advised to purchase people after 55-60: the wrong reaction, not those nerves.
And with Russia, the Italian compartment has problems. In Russia, the Hyundai Coupe position is still difficult to characterize unambiguously. The motor is only 2 -liter. 1.8 for Russia? Yes, you, of course, are not enough. But the box is taken both manually and automatic.
