Because the American market for Hyundai is very important - many technical and design decisions of its cars are aimed at him.) The public hardly believed that the Korean company, who at that time, who at that time, who had been selling in the United States, could create this .
 

A year later, the HCD-III concept was light, which looked even better than HCD-II, and also was equipped with an unusual rear seat-it was expanded 90 degrees, the passenger could sit with his legs extended. The public, primarily young people, flowed in saliva ...
 

In the end of the serial car (Geneva, 1996), there was no funny seat that appeared - it did not meet the requirements of security. In the United States, the car was sold under the name Tiburon (changing the Hyundai Scupe compartment), in the rest of the markets - like just Hyundai Coupe. A couple of years ago, the compartment had already visited our hands (motor #12, 1997) and left quite positive impressions. By the 2000 model year, the car was updated. What changed?
 

So, Hyundai Coupe 2.0 - in the highest configuration of FX. The meeting occurred on the brilliant tile of the car dealership, where it was possible to safely look under the belly as if soaring a car soaring above the floor. The inspection of special changes in the mechanic was not revealed - an independent suspension (front and back of Macpherson) with reproach stability stabilizers, a stainless steel exhaust tract (partially) with an increased diameter with a chrome -based nozzle on exhaust pipe, disc brakes (in front are ventilated).
 

The changes in appearance are more significant - a completely different front with new lighting equipment, a profiled hood, an altered back with a spoiler on the trunk lid. It became more spacious inside. The salon with its aircraft-formal finish is somewhat reminiscent of the interior of the Audi TT-the Korean company, without embarrassment, is borrounded by successful solutions from higher classes.
 

The upholstery of anthracite color, black seats are similar to leather - if it is a substitute, then excellent quality. The sheathing of the steering wheel and the lever of the automatic box is definitely leather, stolen deliberately rough stitches. Torpedo finish plastic is skillfully made under matte aluminum.
 

A la sports seats with heating and mechanical adjustments (right simpler, left - with a change in the inclination of the pillow and the profile of the back), the impression is impressive until you sit properly. The trouble is not that they are harsh - they should be like that - but that the rollers of lateral support are not sufficiently developed to ensure the desired fixation of the body in sharp turns.
 

The amplitude of the longitudinal movement of the driver's seat is sufficient for people of medium and slightly higher than growth, it is not enough highly not enough. The rear seats are designed for two teenagers, I could not accommodate there even with a driver’s chair completely forward. However, for a compact compartment, this is quite excusable. By children's purpose of the back row, the absence of headrests, cigarette lights, ashtrays and pockets for newspapers is justified.
 

The rounded-bugrose bodies of the body from habit does not allow you to really evaluate the dimensions of the machine in a tight parking, forcing to stay away from the neighbors. The immersion in the salon is facilitated due to the strong bend of the doorway - the upper edge of the door is, as it were, shifted inside and does not interfere with the head. The steering column adjustable in the angle of inclination allows a person of any growth to exclude the contact of the knees with the steering wheel. The latter at first seemed large, but no - as it turned out in the movement, it is quite acceptable in diameter, only the rim is thinner and harder than the desired, and its shell slides in the hands with a high -speed tree.
 

Devices - like in the palm of your hand, red arrows on a gray background are perfectly visible. Dominates in the combination of a speedometer, and a tachometer with a red zone of 6.5-8 thousand about/min. hints at the need to twist the motor properly.
 

The lines of the new torpedo are extremely intricate, however-everything is reached, simple and logical: any pennet can be found immediately, without looking, the symbols-pictograms are clear. A little lower than the air conditioner - the CD resort, at the same time with its inclusion from the left rear wing, the antenna crawls.
 

In abundance - air ducts. They are even on the doors, two for glass and for humans. The armrests, in the role of which are a small middle glove compartment and door handle, do not interfere with control - the driver’s elbows do not concern them. If you lower the left hand from the steering wheel to the armrest, the wipers, mirrors and the central lock will be right under the fingers, and a spacious pocket below. In the roof there is a hatch with an electric drive, the control buttons are placed in the ceiling console, next to - a eye.
 

By the convenience of loading the trunk, the Hyundai Coupe model is quite comparable to the pickup. The trunk, under the floor of which is hidden a full -size reserve, large and deep, and you can still fold the backs of the rear seats ...
 

The car is still stupid, without life experience - there are solid zeros on the odometer. She still does not know that the meeting with the slush of February Moscow does not promise her anything good - elegant yellow clothing quickly disappeared under a layer of dirt. Nevertheless, passers -by freeze and shall be shaken for a long time at the Hyundai Coupe. (The lady in the car dealership, having rolled his eyes dreamily, without saying a word, hinted to their companions: but the machine was female!. One even called the compartment a powder-they were like that in the 60s, in the form of a mesmerist shell.)
 

Damsky - no, rather youth (unisex is still alive!) - for some reason, the appearance of the car does not hit male pride at all. Probably because the car is perceived in a completely different way from the inside, and the management process gives tremendous pleasure.
 

Despite the pathological dislike of automatic transmission, I chose the car with a machine gun (the main box of Hyundai Coupe is a five -speed mechanical one). The capital dictates its conditions - frequent accelerations in traffic jams are able to extract any fan of mechanics and reduce the life of clutch. Ready to admit the obvious: the machine in the city is preferable. The Coupe transmission is well agreed with a 2 l 140-horsepower engine, and even an active driver is unlikely to feel offended. The moment of gear shift is almost imperceptible and is determined mainly by changing the number of engine speeds.
 

The motor sounds defiantly - as if there are fifty horses in it than in fact. But cash power is quite enough for a car weighing a little more than a ton. Suffice it to say that the torque of the motor is 180 nm, and acceleration to a hundred takes a little more than 8.5 seconds. I feel the internal potential of the powder, and I am annoyed by torn pennies crawling along the left row with strict observance of the speed regime, they say - I do not violate anything!. The harsh inspector of the traffic police, besieging me after a sharp maneuver with a clearly punished speed, examined the car with interest, for some reason without asking the right ...
 

Despite the frankly summer tires, the car holds well for wet asphalt, providing the driver with unexpectedly strong overloads when accelerating and in corners. Hyundai Coupe confidently prescribes pattern curves in high -speed slalom mode. The photographer grieved - it was not possible to tear the car in the skid on the puddles covered with puddles. Even such an elementary focus did not turn out as separation of the wheel in the bend.
 

The steering steering with good feedback did not cause any complaints, and the harsh suspension and low -profile rubber were further strengthened that we pay the road tax in vain ...
 

Not everyone after the first trip will like this car - by behavior, not at all ladies. Moreover, you should not be puzzled by its acquisition by those whose driver’s experience is limited by several hours of training. In addition, the compartment, according to the prevailing opinion, is an impractical machine.
 

In obvious advantages of the Hyundai Coupe, you can record an aggressive appearance, a decent engine and good handling. In disadvantages - the same aggressive appearance that limits the age category of potential buyers on top.
 

In the USA, Hyundai Coupe in the basic version costs about $ 14,000. The machine, similar to the configuration of the one on our test, would cost about $ 16,000. By local standards - not very much, the model is primarily designed for a stylish, but not too burdened with the youth with means, of those who buy the Ford Escort ZX2 instead of just Escort, or Volkswagen Golf GTI instead of ordinary Golf.
