Here you have the first discovery: the trunk of the hatchback Kia Rio, more like a station wagon, although not small, but still noticeably inferior to the luxury hold of VAZ 2111, however, the factory characteristics give, consider the same volumes-the same volumes-the same volumes- 449 and 450 liters, respectively. The comparison was not asked by chance: a couple of years ago on the same journey the eleventh placed the things and equipment of five skiers, and Rio - only four, and then scored under the roof. Sedan Hyunde emphasized the role of a truck. I must say, on good asphalt Hyund, the emphasis is very comfortable: a soft suspension extinguishes tremors from rare coating defects, the motor mutters quietly. But Kia Rio is noticeably tougher and noisier. Even on barely noticeable cracks, the body shudders and responds with a sonorous bang!, And the gambling motor is quickly annoying.
On the bypass road around Kazan, we find signs for Perm and leave along the R242 highway to the northeast. Arsk, Malmyzh and ... Ice crossing through Vyatka. And only for cars. I wonder if we were driving on Kamaz? The rushing rays of the headlights grab the clearing in the forest, ice ruts with potholes and huge snowdrifts on the sides.

But in such an impenetrable crown, the eyes cuts the eye, it would be a little tortured, but the trouble is, unfortunately, there are no brightness regulators.
Here is the gubaha. Here we rest for several days, we ski, watching the falling column of the thermometer. In the morning, control start: -19s - order, -24 - normal. It seems that the engines do not have time to cool down to such a low temperature: after all, with repeated tests in the freezer (already with 5W30 with oil), the Hynde emphant
-20s, measured precisely by the oil in the engine, and at -25s strikes. This machine requires longer heating before the start of movement: the cold machine switches sharply, with a noticeable jerk. Next - a trip around the surroundings with a mandatory visit to the tire fitting - the punched wheel of Kia poisoned until they put the camera in it.
In the evening, the paraplane pilot is multi -experienced in meteorology, looking at the opened sky and the pillars of smoke from the pipes of the coksochemical plant, gloomily muttered: it will be cold tomorrow. Softly said! In the morning we will leave, and then minus thirty, and ... the accent motor gives out only a few stunted flashes. The usual in such cases of bustle with lighting from a confident rumbling Rio, with calcining candles, does not give anything except blushing noses and hands. There is nothing to do, we pull the car overwhelming in the warm box of the bus park, where in four hours it comes to life as if nothing had happened. The forecast promises further cooling, so in the evening we touch the return road without combining the paraglider.
The cabins of the Koreans were warm enough - only the second speed of the fans was enough in the frost so that it was even comfortable at the back, although the side glasses were still freezing. So the laboratory measurements of heating efficiency, on which Kia Rio easily blocked the standards, was confirmed in practice (Hyunde accent before these tests conducted during
-25s, did not reach). A curious solution: when the windshield is turned on on both machines, judging by the indication, the air conditioner automatically starts. Everything is on Kia, and the refrigerator can be turned off or turned on if you wish. And on Hyunde ... We never comprehended the elusive relationship between the air conditioning itself, the button of its power, an indicator and the distribution handle of air flows.
From the Chusovoy we go along the road under construction on a slave-perm, cutting off a hundred kilometers. Overnight in the game: crews in the hotel, Kia Rio on the street, Hyunde accent in a warm garage. In the morning of about thirty - we start the motors without problems and turn it to the north -west. In the evening near Kirov, we are overtaken, jumping on potholes, a dozen and blinks with an emergency. We stop: because of the wheel? Truth?! Great!!! Write what disgusting roads we have here. Indeed, the roads in the Kirov region have nowhere worse. Here we lost three of the four rear mudguards on our cars. However, there is nothing to be surprised: they are very stringent, they hang quite low and are fixed with flimsy plastic pistons. The bump is higher - and the mudguard as it never happened. And a good road - here it is: a wide even highway begins immediately behind a magnificent deer on the steel Nizhny Novgorod region.
They only accelerated - the craving disappeared and the motor at Kia Rio was jerking off. From the fifth gear, I had to go to the fourth, then to the third. Troit? Symptoms are similar. We stood under the lantern, opened the hood, removed the decorative cover of the power unit, unloaded the trunk to get spare candles - they, of course, were at the very bottom, in the niche of the spare wheel. Behind the bustle passed from a quarter of an hour. To clarify the diagnosis, turn on the starter - and, lo and lo! - The motor earned as if nothing had happened! Having thought, they came to the conclusion that in the cold, most likely, the inlet tract was frozen, and in the parking lot the ice melted from the heat of the engine.
A day later, at the entrance to Moscow, the odometers highlighted the round four thousand kilometers of our New Year's trip, and the gas station counter counted the last liters of fuel. On average, the consumption of 92nd gasoline amounted to the emphasis of 7.2 l/100 km in Hyunde - it is very good for a machine with a hydromechanical automatic. However, there is a considerable merit of a calm, neat driver, and empty highways made it possible to easily maintain uniform economical regime. Kia Rio appetite was not so modest - exactly 8.0 liters per hundred. It seems that we were driving together, on one road ... However, there are still a lot of roads ahead, they will put all the dots over I.
During the night, cars turned into snowdrifts. It doesn’t matter - if only they started!

Recall that in the aero -climate chamber, Hyunde refused to start at -20C (ZR, 2004, No. 1). The study of oils confirmed their compliance with the GOST, and after all, it was exploiting fluids that we initially considered the cause of the failure. Motor oil, viscosity class SAE 10W40, has a kinematic viscosity at 100C 13.4 mm2/s (permissible range 12.5-16.3 mm2/s), dynamic viscosity at -25s 3958 MPA.C (not higher than 7000 MPa .c) and the temperature of the solidification -30s (not higher -30C). Factory oil for automatic gearboxes (ATF) at -20C showed a kinematic viscosity of 1063 MPa.c (typical value of 1280 MPa.c) and froze at -47C (allowed not higher than -40C).
During repeated tests with oil 5W30, the accent engine confidently set off at -20C, although the starting parameters practically did not change. But the barrier in -25s Hyunde did not take the accent, even with two additional batteries.
