Review of the new Honda Accord Type S.

On November 24, 2005, the Honda Accord model range was partially updated. During this event, it was replenished with a new sports model Type S, which is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Our journalist has made a test trip on this car, which is produced with a universal type body.

As you know, on November 24, 2005, partial modernization affected not only the Accord type car, but also the Accord Wagon. Among other things, both model rows turned out to be replenished by a new variety of a machine called Type S. It differs, first of all, a new power unit and transmission. In particular, the car is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine with 4 cylinders, and a 5-speed automatic gearbox of the S-Matic type works with it. In addition, it uses a European-style suspension and 17-inch wheels in size 225/45. The car body is complemented by an aerodynamic kit, an enlarged dashboard appeared in the cabin, the leather chairs are partially made of genuine, partially made of artificial leather and other little things.
Now, I’ll tell you about the features of the car, which I had the pleasure of being driving. In addition to leather seats completely made of genuine leather, the car was equipped with an electric lugger of the rear door of the trunk, the automatic assistant driver (indicated by the abbreviation HIDS, which means Honda Intelligent Driver Supporter) and the HDD navigation system - one in a word, everything is on the highest category. You can also recall the lateral airbags and also of pillows that protect passengers and driver at the level of the head, and the rear head restraints. But all these devices are included in the standard equipment of the car.

As a station wagon, it is very functional.
First, I would like to pay attention to those sides of the new car that should determine the degree of its versatility. So, the length of the machine is 4750 mm, which is quite a good indicator. Moreover, this length was transformed into an enlarged trunk, which can be seen even from afar. If you measure it, it turns out that it goes deep into the cabin for as much as 115 cm. Of course, it is not very good that niches are bulging under the rear wheels, but, nevertheless, the width of the luggage compartment ranges from 100 to 130 cm.
If in the trunk itself the place is still not enough, then you can simply fill the back of the rear seat forward. Thus, the trunk will receive an increase in the length of another 80 cm.
 
Recently, the number of station wagons has been growing in which the transformation of the rear seats is reduced only to collapse of the backs in the direction of forward. But as for this method of cleaning, when the seats are being turned up, it, despite the fact that it is rare, I personally like it personally. For example, when you begin to load an oblong object through the back door of the trunk, the rear seat folded is creating less interference. Therefore, I will allow myself to consider this type of transformation of the rear seats to the number of undoubted advantages of the new Accord Wagon car.
At the same time, we must admit that due to this design of the rear seats, they are not too spacious. It turns out a paradox: with an excessive length of the car itself, passengers of the rear seat have nowhere to remove their legs so that the knees do not rest against the front chair. What happens, the care of a person was sacrificed to freight capacity, so what?
You still need to work with the car.
The running characteristics of the new Accord Wagon car are quite high. I'll start with the engine.
Its maximum developed power is 200 horsepower at 6800 rpm, and the greatest torque is 23.7 kg/m at 4500 rpm. Given the weight of the machine itself, the engine with such a working volume of cylinders has a good power supply. That is why it is in such a way that it is already a good torque at low speeds. So if you move around the city the streets, then the dynamics of acceleration is quite sufficient. But even if you go along the speed highway and you need to make a sharp set of speeds to overtake the driven car in front, you just need to sharply press the accelerator pedal so that the tachometer arrow jumps to 4000 rpm, and the acceleration will be quite sufficient. True, it should be noted that at high speeds, acceptance is not the same, so, apparently, this engine is not suitable for those who are enjoying the race.
The machine is equipped with a sports suspension, which is complemented by 17-inch wheels. This allows you to more or less tightly control the movement, which ensures stability in sharp turns. On the other hand, good handling has the back of a rather elastic suspension, which negatively affects the comfort of driving. In particular, if you have to move along an uneven road, tremors can be very tangible.
Of course, the sports character of the new car Accord Wagon Type S cannot be doubted, be it appearance or technical data. But it seems to me that this character should be expressed more definitely. In other words, since this is a sports station wagon, let it become more mature. And this means that it is still necessary to go on to the engineers to developers. I will personally wait for this moment to come.
