We are always happy with guests, especially because they do not appear empty -handed. The other day, a young man named Nikolai came to the editor - share the experience of operating two completely different cars, Toyota Land Cruiser 100 and Ford Mondeo. Both cars fell into his hands, as they say, from scratch. The first today ran about 10 thousand km, the second - 90 thousand km.
 

Being an experienced mechanic, Nikolai also has a serious rally experience - all this allows us to consider his opinion quite authoritative. Note that it was only about the shortcomings of cars - apparently, our guest considered the advantages less interesting. For some reason, Nikolai asked not to publish his last name. We will not - not the name of the matter. Here is the essence of the story.
 

Toyota Land Cruiser

 
Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV with 4.7 liters was purchased last year. Cracability is somewhere at the UAZ level, even better, which allows, for example, to park in places inaccessible to other machines. But the capabilities of the car should not be overestimated - somehow moving through a not very large icy snow pile, Nikolai heard an unpleasant rattle under the bottom - which he did not attach importance, deciding that it was the sound of crumbling ice. And only then, having stopped onto the pit, did he find that everything was greatly scratched from below - however, there were no breakdowns.
 

The inclusion of intericons and rear differential locks causes terrible sounds in the transmission - as if some gear is broken. Maybe it's okay, but extremely unpleasant.

 
The city’s riding is greatly exhausted, and is frankly dangerous even for a prepared driver. The number of revolutions of the steering wheel from the stop to the stop significantly exceeds the desired. This deprives the control of acuity and increases the likelihood of an accident - the driver does not have time to tax, and even the usual skid can have deplorable consequences. Special training on ice outside the city did not give results, moreover, and the former athlete did not deliver such a ride at all.
 

Factory tires do not hold the SUV poorly when braking, break down in sliding with a large mass. Installation of other rubber, with a smaller pattern and spikes, slightly improved brake abilities. At the same time, the likelihood of a skid decreased and the way out of it was facilitated.

 
The consumption of gasoline was (depending on the driving style) 20-22 l/100 km against the 16-17 dealer promised by the dealer.
 

Metal steps in winter are simply dangerous - the leg slides. As a result, two passenger women were seriously injured. The problem was solved by the sticker with waterproof skin E 16, and the appearance of the machine did not deteriorate from this - on our roads the steps are rarely clean ...
 

Large gaps between wheels and wings turn Land Cruiser into a mud. The impression is that the car collects dirt on purpose. Especially the back door gets. It is double -leafed, with a connector on the belt. When loading, it is enough to raise the upper sash, the lower one can either be lowered or left as it is. In this case, in the first case, knees are dirty, and in the second - the stomach. To avoid this, Nikolai attached the swear canopy from the inside, which, by leaning it out - you can cover the lower sash.
 

The gray villous upholstery of the cabin is easy to smear with dirty shoes. It is not easy to clean up the upholstery, the output - on the floor you can lay the bucket -shaped rugs from domestic machines. The trunk of the VAZ -21099 trunk is well fed into the cargo compartment - almost like a native. The light skin of the seats is also quickly dirty, but it is well laundered by ordinary soapy water.
 

The antenna does not have a remote drive and sticks out over the roof of centimeters for forty - there is a risk of tearing it off with some random branch. If it is lowered on the upper point of the car, you get a good dimensional indicator that allows you to control the situation at the entrance, for example, to a low garage.
 

It seems that the windows buttons were placed based on Japanese ideas about ergonomics - they find themselves somewhere under the wrist of the European. You have to press them with the fingers of the right hand, and this is inconvenient. For 10 thousand km of run of the most serious (and only) breakdown was the end of the headlight washer.
 

Ford Mondeo

 
The second car is the 1995 Ford Mondeo release with 1.6 liters of an engine. Acquired new in Belgium, not adapted to Russia. To date, 90 thousand km has passed. Our guest called this car a vacuum cleaner for the family budget and, in confirmation, simply listed the repair work.

 
30 thousand km - replacing the front levers of the suspension due to dead silent blocks. For some reason, they are only changed on the service. By the way, outwardly European and adapted levers are identical.
 

60 thousand km. The muffler buried, the front brake discs worn out, and again replacing the levers.
 

80 thousand km. Replacing a clutch disc, basket and squeezing bearing (about $ 1000).

 

In addition: replacing brake pads every 20 thousand km and then after 10 thousand km. After 50 thousand km, each one is 15-25 thousand rubles, which approaches the price of the new Oka.
 

Strong knocks in the front suspension did not disappear even after the installation of new racks, levers, tips and all kinds of elastic bands, which suggests some constructive shortcomings.
