Ford focus of the second generation in 2005 was a special event for Russia. Finally, it became possible to buy a relatively inexpensive car of European origin, and choosing exactly those options that are needed. Such a move is not only for customers, but also to sellers. Arriving at the salon behind the basic machine, rarely someone leaves for it: appetite, as you know, comes during meals.
We will start with a review of configurations. The editorial focus, purchased specifically for the race along the Ring of the Dmitrovsky training ground as part of the project 60 hours driving (ZR, 2005, No. 10), cost $ 15,440 (at the rate of 28.6). 100,000 km passed, read the last report on the operation in the September issue of ZR. In the meantime, the focus provides us with the last service: compare it with a modernized sedan. The test Ford, as usual, is significantly richer than our simpleton. But this does not interfere with evaluating the most important changes.
So, from now on there is an opportunity to buy a focus in one of the six fixed sets and get to your own taste. Two initial configurations are still called Ambiente and Comfort. Trend versions now do not exist, but they added a prestigious Titanium.
If you approach the new car from behind or from the side, you may be disappointed. The profile and feed remained almost the same: only the eye of the connoisseur will distinguish between a slightly different form of the rear bumper and will notice the absence of lateral moldings. But the model looks from the face with a completely different car: there is a relief hood, and elegant headlights in the spirit of the new Mondeo (by order of bixenon or with the adaptive front light system AFS). This design refers to kinetic, implying energy in motion. However, from the point of view of the units, the activity of the focus remained at the same level: at your service all the same gasoline motors with a volume of 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters, as well as a 1.8-liter turbodiesel. Mechanical and automatic transmission was also left unchanged.
At the wheel of an editorial focus, everything is familiar for a long time: a successful specialized driver's seat, a soft plastic of the front panel, a convenient steering wheel in the cross section. The salon, by the way, looks almost new, as if there were no hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Alas, the shortcomings also have not gone anywhere. First of all, sound insulation. The engine clearly auditions from idle revolutions and does not allow you to forget about itself, blocking the rumble of tires at high speeds. All the same with the lazy, the focus accelerates at low speeds. Early switching to increased gear causes jerks.
The salon of the new car makes a completely different impression. It is primarily guilty of the equipment that implies the finish of the steering wheel and lever leather, a pseudo -everevo on the console and a two -color finish. Separately, this wealth looks somewhat fragmented: a dark-bearded panel, black skin, brown-gray tree and a controversial combination for aluminum inserts. But in general it looks good.
The innovations of the salon include, first of all, to a combination of devices: scarlet backlight and volumetric edging give a very solid and elegant look. The console is also news: two climate control handles were placed on both sides of the display, which is much more convenient than the previous scheme with two small scores.
Optional equipment was replenished: Sony audio system with a cleaner sound and the ability to play mp3 files, as well as connecting a mobile phone via Bluetooth, USB and IPOD connectors. An audio system and climate can be controlled by a voice, it is a pity, only they do not understand the Russian language. A 230-volt outlet appeared in the list of additional equipment, pay off the engine with a button. The contribution to safety is made by the system of pressure in tires (DDS).
Of course, comparing a 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter engines in the forehead would be incorrect. A more powerful unit of a new focus is more elastic and allows you to boldly go out. However, the characters are similar: motors love high speeds are much more lower. Noise and vibration isolation of the updated version is slightly better: the hood of test car from the inside is covered by the material absorbing the sound. In addition, less viscous oil is poured into mechanical transmission: and fuel consumption is lower, and gear shifts are softer. But the moment of closing the clutch disc with the flywheel is still clearly given to a characteristic click.
The updated focus almost does not differ from the previous one and is still close to the ideal in its class: quite spacious, good in managing, provided with service and spare parts throughout Russia.
It is such a model that will remain at least two more years that separate us from the debut of a truly new Ford Focus of the third generation. Do not worry, time will fly unnoticed. _x0008_
