And while a solid representative sedan or a huge SUV is trying to fly to its destination, simultaneously burning dozens of fuel liters, a small but fairly powerful car (like that very proud bird) maneuvers in a dense city stream and comes to an imaginary finish, if not flush, then certainly Not much later.

The most compact model of the French manufacturer sold in Russia Citroen C2 came to us. The premiere of this baby took place at the Frankfurt Motorshow in 2003. The prototype C2 has become the Citroen C2 Sport concept presented in the spring of the same year, which is a symbiosis of the spectacular dynamics of concept kars and know-how of sports models Citroen. Thus, French designers showed their vision of the sports car of the future. It already follows that the small C2 was still saturated with the spirit of sports in the bud.
In the spring of this year, Citroen C2 underwent light restyling, which a little refreshed the exterior of the hatchback. As for us, the appearance of a 1.6-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 110 hp, as well as the Start/Stop system, which reduces the fuel consumption by almost 10%, no more than the formality of such versions are not delivered to Russia.
Our Citroen C2 is available with a 1.4-liter engine equipped with a Senso Drive (VTR) or 5-speed mechanics (Confort) robotic gearbox, as well as two versions of a 1.6-liter engine, the first of which produces 110 liters. With. And it is equipped with the same Senso Drive (VTR). As for the second version, then we will stop in more detail, especially since it was she who visited our test.
The VTS modification is equipped with the same 1.6 -liter engine, however, unlike the civil version of VTR, it has undergone some changes. Due to the emergence of new camshafts, the changed height of the valve lifting, the use of a new intake manifold, the fuel injection system and exhaust, the power was raised to 125 hp. at 6500 rpm. The maximum torque 143 Nm is achieved at 3750 rpm. As a result, C2 accelerates rather vigorously, especially when the tachometer arrow exceeds 4,500 rpm. Despite the mass of a little more than a ton, even at high speed, the French baby clearly holds a straight line, not trying to jump from the trajectory even after the oncoming air flow from the trucks passing by. Mediocre noise insulation of the motor compartment allows you to enjoy a rich sports sound made by the engine. A well -tuned exhaust system adds bass rumbling to this song.
A power unit partner of a 5-speed manual gearbox disappointed with too long moves of a lever with aluminum knob, as in real sports kara. The main trump card Citroen C2 VTS is not a motor or a box, but ... That's right, controllability. According to this indicator, the baby will give a head start to many. To be moderately, a rigid and elastic suspension gives C2 a particular acuteness and clarity of reactions. VTS version is distinguished by special chassis settings. To increase sports, more rigid springs and an increased front stabilizer were installed. In addition, the gear ratio of the steering mechanism was changed and adjustments were made to the settings of the electrical imprisonment. As a result, the effort on the steering wheel increased, and from the stop to the stop of the steering wheel makes only 2.6 turns against three ordinary versions.
Refinements made C2 VTS more nervous on a straight line: a small drill movement and a small hatchback immediately changes the row. Here, by the way, the ESP stabilization system comes to the rescue (VTS is installed standardly for modification), which very unobtrusively evens out the mini hot hatch, preventing inertial forces from pushing C2 from the road. The brakes deserve a separate praise an excellent combination of efficiency and reverse effort on the pedal.
As for the appearance, Citroen C2 with all its appearance radiates energy and speed in combination with excellent performance. Those who are interested in motorsport will undoubtedly see sports roots in the external design. A wide-wide wheelbase for its class, stuffy wheel arches, a rounded hood, two parallel window sills and large 16-inch alloy wheels already mean the difficult disposition and good dynamic characteristics of this baby. The external differences of C2 VTS and the basic version are in the aforementioned wheeled wheels of a larger size, the rear spoiler on the lid of the trunk and the lower perimeter of the car painted in the color of the body.
The length of the body is only 3.66 meters, which is 20 centimeters shorter than the C3 model despite the fact that the Citroen C2 wheelbase is only 15 millimeters shorter than the older model’s platform.
Despite its modest size, due to a high body, a compact hatchback may well place four passengers. The overall design is designed in the new corporate French style and largely intersects with Citroen C3. This is true for the rounded shape of the front of the body, and for the unusual shape of the rear lateral glasses.
As for the interior decoration, here the differences from the usual VTR are minimal aluminum pedals and the swing of the transmission lever. In general, the interior design left a good impression. The informative panel of the devices is equipped with a traditional Citroen electronic speedometer and a convenient analog tachometer, carefully reminiscent of the achievement of maximum revolutions with a flashing orange indicator. Front chairs with a good profile and developed lateral support lacks several extra centimeters when adjusting in height. As a result, even in the lowest position, a feeling of high center of gravity is created, which disperses the illusion that you are sitting in a sports car inspired by aluminum lotions in the cabin and combat appearance.
In the use of decoration materials, as it should be believed, Citroen C2 did not succeed. The mediocre quality of rigid plastic and the simple fabric of the upholstery of the seats does not cause any positive emotions, but it does not strive much into the eyes. As for the space for the rear passengers, despite the rather compact size C2, with the average growth of the front riders, it is quite two adults will fit, although for obvious reasons they do not have to count on comfort and scope. To increase the volume of the trunk, two rear separate seats have longitudinal adjustment. Well, if you need to translate a large -sized load, then the seats are easily transformed by pressing a special lever, thereby increasing the useful cargo compartment from 193 to 879 liters (according to the manufacturer). An interesting feature is a double -willed fifth door. In order to throw a small bag into the trunk, it is enough to open only the top cover. But if your luggage is larger, then you will have to discard the lower side, which is also equipped with a convenient compartment for storing various small things.
Frankly, I really liked Citroen C2 VTS, but, having traveled on it a couple of days, I began to think about something more comfortable. On such a car you can’t go like everyone else. Gambling and a peppy engine are constantly provoked to attack. Of course, you can go slower and calmer, but then why do you need VTS? By the way, C2 VTS is very popular among young European tuners. Such a lighter is great for those who are just starting to know the basics of motorsport or are simply fond of it. Moreover, its prerogative is precisely the city, where the main advantages of compact cars with sports habits are manifested.
