Of course, there is something to love American cars. Only now this love does not attend everyone. Many of us are a comfortable suspension and spacious interior of the American will prefer good handling and more or less acceptable dynamics characteristic of most European cars. Is it possible to create a symbiosis that would equally suit the inhabitants of the Old and New World?
Such attempts were repeatedly. Here is the new Chrysler Sebring another example. Its external design is a typical example of the excellent work of American designers. When looking in front, it is impossible not to notice a number of decisions borrowed from another model of the stylish Crossfire concern. We go around the car around: many sharp faces, stretched rear lights make Sebring's appearance very dynamic. But without busting, all the same, this is a regular family car of class D. Only now the front bumper extended forward, like the lower jaw, causes controversial sensations. On the one hand, it pulls (visually, of course) the silhouette, perfectly harmonizing with a huge grille of the radiator. On the other hand, I know from experience how difficult it is to get used to the dimensions of such cars. You have to constantly keep in mind that the front it ends not at all where you expect. Well, beauty requires sacrifice.
Inside, everything is again predictable. Large soft chairs, in which an eternity is ready, a massive central console, smoothly flowing into a tunnel perhaps the traditional location of the parking brake and automatic transmission levers masks the American sedan under the European. I really liked the opportunity to fold the back of the front chair, thus constructing a table. A much more practical solution than traditional cup holders, personally, I drink much more often and eat in a fixed machine than on the way. And for the transportation of long goods, it will be very useful.
I immediately note a few negatives. Firstly, having got into such a salon, you expect impeccable quality in everything. But the plastics are completely hard, which again gives practical and undemanding Yankees. Secondly, all devices in the shield are spaced in three wells. It looks just great, but use it the magnificence is not so convenient. I wanted at least the digitization of larger.
Something I sat down, is it time on the road? As expected, the SEBRING Avtoban behaves just excellently. No scribbling, all the few irregularities with healthy appetite are swallowed with a soft suspension. In the cabin, it will have to make efforts in such a level of comfort quite quietly so as not to fall asleep on the long journey (with European speed modes). But the road made a turn, then another. Judging by the route laid for us, a section of the mountain road is ahead, an excellent opportunity to stretch both the driver and the car. Here is the sebring and plowed. No, if you still imagine yourself a responsible family man and slowly roll on a serpentine, no problems. But you just have to enter the role of an ever -late businessman, as the picture is fundamentally changing. The four -speed automatic is most annoyed - for too long it decides on which transmission it is best to continue moving. I just felt a poke in the back, how it is time to brake before a new turn. You have to either play ahead of the advance, that is, put pressure on the accelerator a little earlier, or go into manual mode. The power of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is not so more than, but enough. A little later they promise a 2.7-liter six, but will the extra 18 horses play a big role?
Remember, I talked about a mixture of an American with a European? So the sebring suspension was not at all slaughtered, like many overseas cars. With exemplary behavior on an autobahn, it works very well in the turns, the rolls are minimal, demolitions can occur only with a significant overkill of speed, but the engine and transmission do not have the races, as noted above. Compliments are worthy and steering, however, again with a conquest to the origin of the car.
In a word, the compromise turned out to be quite successful, although not without flaws. As practice shows, cars with good inclinations, but without pronounced charisma, it is best sold on him to find a buyer. Given a rather rich basic package (the simplest version will cost the Russian buyer 25,900 euros), we hope that the new Sebring will find a place under the sun and in the Russian market.
