Sitting in the driver's seat and slamming the door behind him, which, by the way, closes with the sound of a tin bucket falling on the asphalt, I immediately realized where I was. Modern skyscrapers, which recently grew up on Antonov-Ovseenko Street, remained there, outside, I seemed to be in the age of the past, as if by the wave of a magic wand. And more specifically, in my very first VAZ nine car.
 

Of course, the front panel of the Chevrolet boasts more rounded shapes, and the upholstery of the doors with fabric inserts, but otherwise the similarity is simply amazing. The same shapeless front chairs that do not fix the body at all. The driver’s manner can also be moved only back and forth and tilt his back, but you can’t raise or lower the pillow. And the steering column does not indulge in adjustments. And the glasses of the windows and the levers of the settings of the mirrors! A shield of devices without a tachometer! If you knew how I missed all this ...
 

But the external similarity is only half the old. The designers of Lanos exactly managed to convey the process of adjusting the mirrors in the nine. You rotate the lever, but the glass does not begin to move at all at once. In the end, it breaks down and takes the position that he wants. So it is better to install a mirror with your hand through an open window is not so convenient, but much faster. Or here's a sweet memory: the back door can be open only after you opened the front and unlock the handle of the central castle. Well, as much as he paid, dear comrade, and received so many amenities.
 

However, everything is not so bad, not so bad. The finishing materials are undoubtedly better than on domestic machines, and the panels are fitted very carefully. I didn’t even dream of such happiness as the cup holders, and there are two of them in Lanos.
 

And this small sedan has a fairly spacious interior outside. The front seat can be moved so that with the height of 186 cm, I barely touch the pedals. On the back sofa, when landing, it is, of course, not so free, but in general tolerable. A couple of centimeters remains between my crown and the ceiling, but the knees, albeit not much, still rest against the front chair. By the way, the back of the rear seat is not only not screwed tightly, like the closest competitor of Logan, it also folds in parts. So the owner of the Chevrolet will be something trumped to the owners of our cars and even Renault of the Moscow assembly.
    
His fate

This car appeared in 1997 and not in America, but in Korea. And was called Dau Lanos. Then the Korean company, as a rule, turned to Italian designers for help, because its own style of style at that time was quite weak. They released our hero until 2002, until more modern models replaced him. But it was then that the American General Motors acquired DEU, and a year later she signed an agreement with the Zaporizhzhya Automobile Plant. And in December 2004, Lanos survived the second birth on the conveyor of Zaz. Since November, the current Cossacks with the Emblem Chevrolet began to enter Russia.

But both the seat and the cup holders are mere trifles in comparison with the fact that the masters of the most famous body atelier, led by Giorgio Dzhujaro, worked over the appearance of Lanos. True, the car was designed in the early nineties, so you will not find many modern automotive fashion trends in the form of Chevrolet. Meanwhile, in general, the design of the radiator of Lanos smiling with all the black bars of the radiator is a good impression.

However, jokes aside. For an inexpensive car, which you are going to buy for your blood, it is more important not subjective assessments, but objective characteristics. So, a picky inspection of the body did not reveal any defects. The gaps between the details were even, and the quality of painting is worthy. Which, in fact, is not surprising: Lanos is collected using quite modern equipment. Engines are supplied directly from Korea. But back, perhaps, back to the wheel. It is necessary to check what this dvigun is in the case.
 



Strengthen the muscles with physical education
You have not forgotten where I started my story? So, it turned out that Lanos’s similarity with nine equipment does not end. Do you think it's just to set sail from the border on the Ukrainian Chevrolet and go? At first, I even thought that there were some problems with the steering wheel, it rotates so tightly. However, I soon remembered the amplifier. So the owner of Lanos is a good and regular load on the muscles of the upper shoulder girdle will be provided.
 

Physical education, of course, is useful, but the steering wheel makes four and a half turning out of the stop, and this is not at all great. In order to quickly rebuild into a neighboring row in a traffic jam or go around the sudden obstacle, you need to rotate the steering wheel with the agility of an experienced ralist. In a city with such a steering wheel, exertion torment.

And on the highway it turned out a little better. Firstly, in corners, reactive effort is such that you need to keep the steering wheel, pretty strained. Secondly, in the near-Street, the steering wheel is absolutely empty, which is why it is very difficult to control the car at speeds above 120 km/h. And thirdly, your hands will immediately feel all the defects of the road surface. And vibrations from the engine too. The latter, by the way, are well tangible on the gearbox lever.
 

The engine itself is not bad at all. This is almost the same unit that is put on Nexia, only forced up to 86 liters. with. For a machine weighing a little more than a ton of such power, it is enough to feel confident in the city, and accelerate to 140 km/h on the highway. If another gearbox worked was honest ...
 

Despite the lack of sound insulation of the motor compartment, the engine does not even annoy even at such speed. But frankly, frankly, is just scary to go. After all, the Chevrolet is not only an empty steering wheel, but also the brakes are far from ideal. Slowing is not at all proportional to the effort. Click on the pedal, the machine slows down barely. You press stronger, and until a certain point the picture is the same, but suddenly it comes to the pads that they are required from them, and they are pressed against the discs and drums almost until the wheels are blocked. And this is on dry asphalt. And what will happen on a slippery road? Lanos does not have any ABS, as you know.

 
And I was about to praise the suspension, because our bumps, gravel, and the cobblestone bridge Lanos passed without shaking and hard blows, only importantly swaying. In addition, the road clearance is 165 mm for us what the doctor prescribed. But after we drove 150 km, in the rear suspension something creaked either shock absorbers or springs. Even a shame.
 



No need to rush
Yes, it's a shame. After all, Lanos is pretty pretty, more modern, more convenient and better than vases. And happiness as a warranty of three years or 100,000 km, the owners of our cars did not dream of. But, you see, it’s not very pleasant when something creaks in the suspension, the doors are closed with a clang, and the brakes work like a gazelle. Again, the equipment in which there is nothing, with the exception of the driver's pillow, not everyone will like it.
 

In short, for $ 8990 I personally would not buy Lanos. As, in fact, I would not buy the absolutely empty Nexia and Logan offered for about the same money. But get the Ukrainian Chevrolet in the base of the steering wheel and the central castle, even if the price would have increased by $ 300,500 because of this and would think.
 

Moreover, in the representative office, General Motors says that in the first quarter of next year, we may have richer modifications. Let's hope that richer does not mean much more. But until then, the plans of the American corporation to make Lanos in Russia with a folk car, selling it in the amount of 35,000, seem too optimistic to put it mildly.
