Cheri M11 Test: Seventh Feeling

This is still not a contender for the title of a car of the year, but no longer a crumbling rattle, which was reminded by the first attempts of the Celestial Enterprise to master the high -tech field of passenger transport.

What are it about
So, what to deal with: M11 has been traveling around Russia since April of this year in the bodies of the sedan and hatchback with 117-horsepower engines of 1.6 liters. But in the future, engines of 1.8 and 2.0 l with automatic transmission may appear in our market.

The basic equipment is rich in air conditioning, an MP3 magnet with a mini-USB-entrance (which for some reason is simply called USB), electric windows, a power steering, 16-inch wheels cast. In more expensive trim levels, an on-board computer, climate control, front wipers with frameless brushes, parking sensors, as well as rain and light sensors are available. It sounds quite good, given that the basic hatchback costs 444,999 rubles (a sedan is 15,000 more expensive), and in the top version the car will be more expensive than 525,000 rubles.

M11 engineers seem to have taken care of the security quite seriously, given that the car received five stars for safety, however, from the national security assessment program of new CNCAP cars. However, so far we have no reason not to trust the Asian colleagues of Euroncap. The list of safety tools includes a traumatic steering column, front and side airbags for front passengers, curtains for front and rear passengers, programmable deformation zones, ESP, EBD systems and, of course, ABS.

By clothing
For the first time when I saw the car, I out of habit began to look for a well-known car-figure in my head, from which Chery (as it was repeatedly) sighed his next project. But in my intracranial file cabinet there was no desired file. Unless very little M11 reminded me of Renault Fluence, but not enough to blame the Chinese of plagiarism. In fact, the new Chery was created from scratch, and the designers from the Pininfarina studio invited to cooperate.

Personally, the sedan is most pretty to me. A smooth, rounded and stylish car with a pretty optics, moderately elegant bumper, combined into holistic paintings in the front and back; This sedan (judging exclusively in appearance) could be born in a design unit of any European automaker and would be accepted without sharp criticism.

The rear door handles are especially interesting. They, as in some Alfa Romeo, are not located in the usual place on the door, but at the back of the glass, at the junction with the roof.

Sixth Sense
Ergonomics is almost bred at the level that you need to get even a cheap car. The chair is uncomfortable, lateral support is almost imperceptible. There is no apparently adjustments in height, only in the basic configuration. But the devices are well read; And on the central console, even a place under the on -board computer is cut (which we would only see in a more expensive configuration, and we only have a plastic plug).

Perhaps the biggest drawback of Cheri M11 The feeling of a Chinese car. This is such a mixture of feelings and emotions that arise in a person who has moved to a Chinese car with a more or less decent foreign car. In M11, this sensation arises due to strange sounds that are distributed from under the hood when turning and moving along an uneven road. Either the engine was lying unreliable on its supports, not that one way or another, but the insignificant (I am almost sure) Technical flaws greatly spoiled the first impression of a pleasant car in many respects.

And nothing more annoys in it. The steering wheel with minimal reverse effort is insignificant, but very light. The gearbox lever is perfectly included in grooves with an extraordinary clarity for the Chinese. The not very painful engine eats 92 gass (and is characterized by a modest appetite) and is well balanced: even at a speed of 130 noise and vibrations less from it from the wheel arches. The motor, by the way, was also not developed in the Middle Kingdom. Rather, not only. Avl, Avl, who previously helped to develop engines for leading German auto -brands, helped auto -builders from China.

Place for step forward
In addition to the price, the M11 has other obvious advantages. Mostly, this is a rather spacious car (at least our test sedan), with good sound insulation, worthy of the assembly quality (!) And good handling. This is not a typo and a fragment of another machine from a dough-dough of a dough. Chery M11 is really easy to manage; His suspension can smooth out medium and small road irregularities.

The speed of reactions? Information? Responsiveness? No need to exaggerate the abilities of Chinese engineers, they still have where to grow.
