Test drive BMW Z4 Roadster E85 2006 - 2009 convertible

In the BMW-Z4 family, comfort is inferior to temperament.
An amazing thing: this expensive car of a prestigious German brand, which has been sold in Russia since 2003, will not often meet on the street. And you will certainly find a look at a rapid silhouette, which is clearly not created to puff in Moscow traffic jams. But on the highway you can’t keep track of him: he will whistle low over the asphalt and hide from the eyes. Here he is, Rogster BMW Z4.
Three years ago, the magazine already wrote about him (ZR, 2003, No. 8), but it was a car with a manual box. And on this five -speed machine, which also allows you to sequentially choose the transmission with levers on the steering wheel. And the engine here is what you need: not a two -liter economy version, 150 hp, released to maintain demand in the States, and a three -liter in -line six with a capacity of 266 hp. It was under it that a long hood was painted, which sets the tone for the whole appearance of the car. Imagine what kind of class would have turned out if the dimensions of the hood were determined by some four cylinders. It is worth adding that BMW engines are constantly being improved. And the current generation of three -liter engines is more powerful than those that stood on the first Z4 three years ago, for as many as 35 forces. Of course, this was great on the dynamics.
Of course, Z4 with an automatic machine is 2000 euros more than manual, but the convenience of control created by an automatic box is worth it. But it is in vain to expect BMW of the sixth or seventh episodes from the Comfort Rodster.
Luxurious sports seats equipped with electro -regulations are convenient to say. But to low landing you need to get used to it a little. In addition, to sit in a chair, you have to squeeze into a low door opening in a low roof. Of course, the problem disappears, as soon as the roof is folding in for some ten seconds and takes a place in the niche behind the rear seat. Why buy a convertible, if you do not ride with a raised top?
I rush towards the wind. I am slightly shaking at bumps. The moves of a hard sports suspension are small in the way I literally feel my back. The steering wheel is very sharp, and it is better to always hold it with two hands. Here you do not need to switch the programs, you can completely concentrate on the road. And this is a big plus of a machine operating, which is also impeccable.
Dynamic control of electronics does not allow the driver to make gross errors when passing turns. Powerful disk brakes besieged the accelerated horse literally on the spot. The driver feels at the same time a violent temper and flexibility of the car. The further the speedometer arrow goes, the more fascinating the ride on Z4.
Definitely this car is not for everyone and everyone, but for lovers in speed.
