BMW with a diesel engine? For Europe, there is nothing unusual in this, all the more funny. Modern diesel engines have long ceased to be slow and low -power. It is another matter that back in 1993194. The BMW development department took samples of Russian diesel fuel and came to disappointing conclusions: the premature failure of the engines is guaranteed. However, after new tests spent almost 10 years later, they decided: BMW diesel engines in Russia! We took the BMW X3 with a three -liter turbodiesel.
How much does Mr. X drink?
The first BMW with diesel engines officially supplied to Russia were the altar of X3 and X5. In conditions when gasoline prices are growing almost every day, the advantages of ignition engines from compression are becoming more and more noticeable. If you focus on the usual expenditure indicators, then in diesel x3 it will not exceed 12 l/100 km in the city, and it is not difficult to meet on the track in 9 liters. Our measurements using an on -board computer were given 6 l/100 km at 70 km/h, 7.2 l at 90 km/h and 8.5 liters per hundred at 120 km/h not good for almost a two -ton machine with considerable aerodynamic resistance.
What is there under the hood?
Six cylinders in a row BMW business card. Diesel is no exception. The new engine, which managed to perfectly prove itself in sedans of all episodes, weighs 213 kg and in the version for x3 develops 150 kW/204 hp. at 4000 rpm and torque 410 N. M in the range of 15003250 rpm.
The option for X5 is more powerful, since it is not limited by a fragile gearbox that has 160 kW/218 liters. With. and 500 N.M from 2000 to 2750 rpm.
The design of the engine in the spirit of the most modern trends: an unrequited combustion chamber, four valves per cylinder, the battery of the UALL WILL WILL with a pressure of up to 160 MPa, adjustable turbocharger, intermediate cooler, and oxidizing neutralizer. Even the DDE5 computer, which controls the injection, in its parameters, could recently compete with the personal: 32-bit, 40 MHz, 1.5 megabyte of RAM special attention to electronic warfare candles. They operate under a voltage of 6 V and are able to prepare the motor for launch at a temperature of -20C in 2 (!) Seconds.
TRAVEL NOTES
Knowing what the torque of turbodiesel, you are tuning in excellent accelerating dynamics. But not everything is so simple: reckoning for high indicators of the narrowness of the working range. It seemed that overclocking over 8.2 s to 100 km/h is able to dispel any doubts. The diesel BMW X3 behaves perfectly on the go, and a typical overtaking on the highway, when it is required to sharply accelerate from 7080 km/h, manages literally half a half -parted under a quiet whistle of a turbocharger.
But the start from the place is not impressive, the jerk is smoothly replaced by a failure, and only after 40 km/h BMW is again ready to demonstrate full strength.
In real life, disadvantages often turn out to be advantages. Turboyama allows you to move smoothly and crawling in traffic jams do not need jewelry work by a gas pedal. Thanks to a fairly short transfer of the transmission at speeds above 60 km/h and the highest gear, the automatic X3 is always ready for leaning for overtaking. In combination with a quick box, the effect surpasses expectation: it is not only easy to go to diesel BMW X3 on a diesel BMW X3.
However, the local roads do not welcome fast fans of fast driving, deafening not only with road signs, but also the quality of the coating. At first, BMW X3 responds painfully to Russian reality. However, the rigidity of the suspension is redeemed not only by small rolls and a quick reaction of the machine, but also by a sense of confidence on a dirt road. Here, the excess of stiffness turns into an impressive energy intensity: this allows maintaining a pace inaccessible not only to passenger cars, but also to other all -terrain vehicles. However, the sensations that you experience in the BMW X3 on ordinary suburban highways are even more peculiar: they radically change with speed growth. If at 60 km/h the car seems excessively shaking, 100 km/h meticulously copies the profile of the road, then after 130 it becomes truly comfortable. A modest fuel tank for 68 liters, which served as a limiter of the average velocity of a gasoline machine, in a diesel version provides a distance between gas stations at least 600 km. As for the maximum speed, in our configuration it was limited to 210 km/h, so tires with the speed index of V are designed so much. However, with a sports package, which includes low-profile 18-inch wheels with tires 235/50R18, the ceiling increases by 8 km/h. Connoisseurs of special personality can also order wide rear tires 255/45ZR18.
TARGETS AND GOALS
With all the splendor that the diesel BMW X3 demonstrates on asphalt and even dirt roads, its capabilities on the crossed areas are quite modest. Hard suspensions, blessed with powerful stabilizers of the anti-resistance stability, hang the wheels into the air on harmless, seemingly bumps, so that the operation of the ADB-X system responsible for the brakes of the shredding wheels (imitation of differential blocking) is heard every now and then. The absence of a lowering gear suggests that on the sandy beach you need to behave carefully, it is not easy to leave in a binding, and the vaunted X-Drive is clearly delayed with the connection of the front wheels.
And yet, while BMW X3 with a diesel engine is practically no rivals. Having combined the dynamics, practicality and economy, he sacrificed very few: the ostentatious comfort of suspensions and abilities of off -road. However, they did not make a price for the sake of popularity: 56,900 euros. The senior X5 with a diesel engine is a quarter more expensive. But compared with a gasoline version, diesel x3 is only 1000 euros more expensive.
