This time, the object of experiments of the famous tunger Richard Hamann was a textbook sportsman from Munich - the M3 coupe. The car deserved world fame thanks to its chassis and running qualities, but, of course, he could not claim the title of supercar with a 3.2-liter in-line six. Therefore, work boiled in the operating room. The place of the compact in-line six was taken by the 5-liter V8 V8 from the M-Motorsport, which the connoisseurs admired the wonderful BMW M5 and especially on the magnificent Rodter of the Z8. Of course, for transplanting a full -size V8, the motor compartment of the serial M3 had to be thoroughly redrawn. Hamann experts cut out the necessary recesses in the supporting frame of the front volume of the body, and then implanted original elements, simultaneously strengthening the body. As a result, even the mounting points of the suspension racks were moved a couple of centimeters, a little shifted forward and the front bumper - it was necessary to place not only the engine itself, but also the radiators of the corresponding sizes. In general, this procedure is quite worthy of the most real automaker, which Hamann is officially considered.

It was not the first time to attach a V-shaped motor under the hood M3-the company already had a unique experience in implantation in the bowels of the 3rd series of the giant 6.1-liter V12 (see No. 11, 2001)! (By the way, it was with that sensational model Laguna Seca Hamann that he began to practice transplanting the wing doors to its cars.) But if you present a middle-class compartment with the V12 engine, it is extremely difficult, then the M3 C V8 M-Motorsport is quite logical. Since the debut of the current M3 (E46) in 2000, many fans of Bavarian cars, especially in the USA, literally required an 8-cylinder version of the model. And it was logical, because the same Mercedes is equipped with a V8 CLK engine - a direct competitor M3. BMW itself began to gravitate to such a decision and even released an extreme 8-cylinder M3 GTR. But it was a tiny batch for homologation in the overseas racing championship Alms.

The car had a minimum of serial and was generally not not suitable for road operation. As a result, Munich engineers officially stated: in the current generation V8 on M3 will not appear. Therefore, the completely real and, according to Hamann, the non-controlled process of adaptation of the 8-cylinder unit to M3 caused increased interests of experts. Hamann experiences particular pride in that he helped to come true to the most persistent fans of the M3+V8 concept, and therefore the main character of the Las Vegas Wings model is publicly displayed. A huge red slab V8 flaunts in a glass window - a huge glazed neckline framed by carbon is made in the hood: since it is the V8 under the hood M3 and is the main visor of the car, so let everyone see this outrage! After all, if the M3 body is simply decorated with v8 nameplates, this can only mock many third -party observers: here, they say, a dive, which is not aware that there is no such combination in nature. And so everything honestly: complete transparency!

In order to further enhance the visual effect of M3 transformations and give its appearance a resemblance to supercars, Las Vegas Wings, as well as the preceding Laguna Seca and San Diego Express (see No. 9, 2003), and the wing doors were presented. The essence began to fully correspond to the name. In patented Hamann technologies for moving serial doors from their standard place on the front racks of the roof, more and more fans appear. The tuninger worked out a simple and not very expensive procedure, as a result of which the car, when opening doors, causes a literally stunning reaction from others. The wings moving in the arc are fascinating with their elegance! Hamann can sew these wonderful doors to any compartment of the 3rd series, turning an ordinary car into a magnet that attracts the attention of passers-by. And modern computer programs allow you to calculate the places of attaching new loops with such accuracy that the winged doors enter the openings and locks perfectly. At the same time, neither the standard doors themselves nor the glass in them change. Even a solid deaf sound characteristic of BMW machines is preserved! And the inner door handles, originally designed for swing doors, are no less convenient when you take from below and then pull down, and not sideways. But the most amazing thing is that such a bold decision is approved by the incorruptible German TUV - Hamann's wings have a certificate of conformity!

A detailed description of all stylistic accessories, which is so generously gifted with Las Vegas Wings, would take more than one page. This plastic-aluminum architecture can be considered in the photo. All elements, in addition, can be installed on the usual BMW of the 3rd series, moreover, far from all of this aggressive Hamann design pack, it looks harmonious or highly class. Las Vegas Wings conquers its technical and engineering solutions, but the verified style of the original machine sometimes does not have to be sweet, because the main task of a tuning body kit is to change the appearance of a serial car as much as possible ...

The characteristics of the serial V8 (400 hp and 500 Nm) have always been considered sufficient, if no more for fans of the most dynamic driving. But Richard Hamann believes that this elite, according to many, is collected on the stream, saving on components. Therefore, even the illustrious engine from M-Motorsport was finalized. Leaving the working volume of the motor and almost without touching its insides, Hamann experts limited themselves to modifying the intake system, supplying it with a racing air filter, replacing the electronic control unit and, of course, installing special catalysts and muffle in the exhaust system. And such measures led to a tangible result: doping from Hamann allowed 485 hp. and 555 Nm. Of course, the large V8 and numerous stylistic accessories increased the mass of Las Vegas Wings exactly to the centner compared to the serial M3. However, after all, the capacity increased by 142 hp, and the most impressive thing is that the craving increased by almost 200 nm, that is, by 60%! There is no doubt grown by the Hamann M3 V8 refers to a completely different category than the basic M3. This is a full -fledged representative of the elite: acceleration to hundreds of 4 s and the maximum speed of 315 km/h mean that winged doors open your way behind the wheel of a real supercar!

But, like any powerful BMW, ”our test pilot Denis Moren shares the first impressions,“ this radical version does not bother at urban driving. At restrained speeds for comfort and lightness of control, the car is completely identical to any smallest three -lacker. A soft clutch pedal, a feeding steering wheel, a suspension, valiantly swallowing irregularities, provide the same excellent comfort as most bimmers. Of course, already at this heating stage it is impossible not to notice the special engineering of the engine. It is exclusively elastic - since 2000 rpm V8 is very diligent.

The start from the place in the hill on the highest, VI gear is a focus that I liked to do so on Z8 - with this forced motor even more smooth and spectacular! Up to 3500 rpm, the sound of a working engine (even with sports silencers) does not exceed the noise level in the salon of the average sedan. Together with the V8, the gearbox known to specialists also migrated here (only with even more short moves), which means that switching occur with fantastic clarity and require much less physical effort than an ordinary car! In other words, the uncompromising of tuning Hamann does not reduce the component of the donor M3 - a very comfortable car for everyday operation.

... The obsessive bright spot of a huge motor in front of the pilot's eyes is like a red rag for a bull! I click more on the right pedal, and the demon comes to life under the hood. Despite the fact that the III gear is included, the rear axis is nervously twitched to the right and left and a powerful spurt begins. And what about I and II programs? Oh, yes, Herr Hamann and really made rabies injection! Suddling with a terrible missile launch, the car accelerates so fiercely and with such serious overload that I can say right away: it is quite comparable to accelerate with classic supercars with their V12! Moreover, the restless Bavarian V8 does not know failure - it is exclusively accelerating the car from 2000 rpm - a very rare fullness with traction. The tuninger even had to apply the rear self -locking differential (40%), but under the influence of huge power the driving wheels still strive to scroll independently, requiring decisive actions by the steering wheel. In these moments of ferocious overclocking, you should not think about how much horsepower this machine has and why suddenly, according to the emotions of acceleration, it turns out to be much stronger than more powerful models. The overloads felt by the sledges and the intensity of the speed set depend on so many factors, and according to their combination, Las Vegas Wings can be put on a par with the most crazy models. This is a crazy sprinter!

The engine finalization and especially the new Hamann mufflers deprived the M -Motorsport unit of his famous voice - such an intelligent metallic chirping, simultaneously sophisticated and loud (see No. 11, 2000, No. 9, 2002). Of course, the Hamann forced motor also appears the pilot with rich bass, at high speeds turning to higher, ringing notes. But its sound is less piquant and less intricate, it, to our surprise, rude, more banal and even quieter than that of the mentioned M-Motorsport engines.

But Hamann managed to give the motor a new, daring disposition. The M-Motorsport engine is distinguished by a pronounced linear characteristic: the increase in traction occurs powerfully, but progressively. And the V8 from Hamann, without having lost fanatical traction, became infected with fierce bursts. At 4000 rpm, the engine explodes with a stormy influx of power, as if a high -pressure turbine has connected. The engine also meets a brutal impetus to the back of 2500 rpm in the gears, the process of setting revolutions is much more rapid than that of the standard unit. It is characteristic that at the highest revolutions the engine retains much more energy: even at 7000 rpm, it is clearly felt that there is still a power supply! Yes, and you can twist the motor to higher values \u200b\u200b- for example, in our car it is a little more than 8000 rpm. Hamann considers this the best limit. But for especially temperamental owners, the company can make an even higher -speed unit! Therefore, there is no red zone on the Hamann branded tachometer - all according to an individual order. Such significant changes in the behavior of the motor radically change the style of aerobatics, make it even more incendiary!

It seems to me that this is an interesting psychological move, ”says Denis Moren. - When the pilot is constantly in the field of view of a working motor, a certain mental connection is formed: he sees which unit disperses the car and completely obeys it! And, perhaps, the type of open engine acts on the driver’s subconscious much stronger than the presence of a pezhon window on the hood. Of course, the additional load on the front axis in the form of 80 kg of the V8 engine significantly reduced that sharpness and outstanding obedience of the behavior of the front axis, which is famous for the M3 with a 6-cylinder engine. When attacking in a bend, which has become a more heavy nose leads to a distinct manifestation of insufficient rotation - the front line strives to shift out. But with such a herd under the hood, this should not be paid attention to.

A little more gas, and the rear axle begins such a dance, like an angry bull during Corrida bursts off his hind legs! Here, there is no trace of insufficient rotation, to cope with excessive. Well, temperament! It is amazing that the DSC OFF button does not work on this demonstration copy - the electronics is constantly turned on. But the effectiveness of the basic DSC was calculated, of course, for the possibilities of a much less violent in -line six, and with an avalanche of powered V8, this is not to cope with this, so that the active effect on the gas pedal inevitably leads to constant slipping and loss of stability both in turns and on a straight line . Nevertheless, unlike most super -speed supercars, the power of which can usually be used only in straight sections, Las Vegas Wings - a car for a pilot, it preserved M3 genes. I would not advise any bold experiments on this machine even with average training. But in the presence of racing experience and a certain courage, you will receive a lot of unforgettable emotions from the fight with this burning alloy of insufficient and excessive rotation. But, of course, only on even dry asphalt! Moreover, the mechanism for choosing the programs of this box is so amazing that numerous sports switching is an indispensable component of the pleasure that this car will give you!

The Las Vegas Wings Avtoban again makes you doubt its special strength training. The speedometer arrow meets with a mark of 300 quickly and meek - for this you need only a few kilometers of a straight line. This spectacle is not available to the owners of standard Z8 and M5 - at the factory, the high -speed capabilities of both models are limited at 250 km/h, but even cars with the watchman disconnected slightly did not do not reach the treasured three hundred. Hamann is able to continue overclocking further, however, after 300 km/h the intensity of the speed set drops sharply - each new kilometer takes time. But the car of Richard Hamann delights with outstanding stability when moving at high speeds. The car has one hundred percent stability! All this hinged masquerade (hypertrophied spoilers, ministers, drifts, the diffuser of the rear bumper and a huge anti-wing on the trunk cover) can annoy someone, but its effectiveness is obvious. When you fly at a speed of more than 300 km/h, you are amazed at amazing stability (even compared to standard BMW) and you don’t even remember the controversial aesthetics of aerodynamic accessories. True, these massive accessories at high speeds create quite serious aerodynamic noises in the cabin. This could be regarded as a drawback, but at least everything is perceived logically: the car is at a speed of 300 km/h, the driver clearly hears the sounds accompanying this process and realizes that this is almost the same speed with which the reactive airbus takes off! Hamann’s this voteness on the maximumee, oddly enough, is even more pleasant than the complete silence in the Brabus salon at the same speed ...

Hamann tuning chassis can serve as an example to follow any manufacturer. The combination of the minimum clearance, almost the complete absence of rolls with the excellent comfort of the chassis - in achieving this compromise Hamann there are practically no equal. The suspension settings are such that even on super -minoroprofile tires, roads are not particularly annoyed by passengers. Finally, the tuninger saved the M3 of its Achilles heel - weakly brakes. Hamann Racing's impressive red 6-piston calipers provide a very powerful slowdown, although prolonged emergency brakes still lead to loss of efficiency. In addition, during sharp braking, the car noticeably drives the right and left. But, according to Richard Hamann, this is an inevitable result of a violation of the weightlifting, because initially the car was not designed to install V8. However, even such pranks in the behavior of the machine are perceived adequately in the light of its common crazyshinka.

What is the end? As happens in such cases, the price of an improved car compared to the source copy can be shocked: 280 thousand euros (Tax-Free). With this money you can buy five standard M3, four M5 or two and a half Z8! But the Hamann car should not be directly compared with serial samples due to the huge volume of design and aesthetic (not to mention mental) transformations. This mutant lives his life, this is a fundamentally new race. Therefore, in the official name of the model there is no mention of either M3 or BMW at all. The basis, of course, is Bavarian, but the newly -minted car is exclusively Hamann Las Vegas Wings. Dynamic abilities and extravagance worthy of supercar, and the price is appropriate.

By the way, the German TUV officially confirmed the result of Las Vegas Wings in acceleration of 0-100 km/h: 4 s. That is, this creation of Hamann can be safely attributed to the category of the most dynamic 4-seater models, which also include Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (4.2 C), Bentley Continental GT (4.7 C) and Mercedes AMG CL 65 (4.5 s ). Hamann is very emotional when dispersing, and even in the sense of 4-month M3 can give a hundred points forward. True, the definition of serial in Las Vegas Wings is very conditional, but nevertheless, the tuninger has already sold half a dozen such machines.
