And ultimately, not one of the competing sides wins, but the third, for which, in essence, everything is done by the consumer. True, he eventually pays for each know-how. But the improvements of that are worth it. Take at least the BMW sedan of the 5th series, recent updates in which deserve grades perfectly.
Guest from the future
External changes in this car will only be found by an expert: a front bumper with a chrome strip, detached headlights, well, all the back lighting technology is now only on LEDs. But, pay attention, the sedan looks generally freshened. Because initially this generation of the model was elegant-futuristic, I would determine the exterior with such words. In the car, as it were, everything necessary was laid down for further improvements.
The first minutes at the driver’s place you experience mixed feelings. On the one hand, there are few changes in the interior, but they can be called conceptual. If you still traveled in the top five, then now you feel at home. Although how to say. Here is a new automatic transmission lever this is no longer a lever at all, but some kind of stylish computer joystick. It is necessary to get used to the appeal with him, but somehow you immediately understand that you are already at the next stop on the way to the future, and you accept the innovation unconditionally. In addition, the algorithm of the machine gun remained the same, the ability to switch from step to a step in manual mode with the help of steering wheel petals or manipulating the same joystick did not go away.
A little later, you pay attention to the clearly improved quality of finishing materials. Now it is not rough plastic, which caused the complaints of potential buyers, but quite pleasant to the touch, soft and textured material. Then, you notice the changing shape of the doorbells. They became thicker, have a two -tonal color the top is black, and the bottom is in the color of the seats, and the decorative insert of the same material that is used in the front panel and the central console. It can be metal and wood. The windows buttons are integrated into the armrest, and the door compartments became more spacious. As a result, a new, and a very pleasant sensation from the salon as a whole is created. That is, now you pay not only for the sound of the motor and adrenaline, even if you purchase cars in the basic configuration.
Sports spirit

Immediately a small screen of the on -board computer, indicators of the fuel level in the tank and the moment consumption (I wonder why BMW still installs it?). The Idrive system itself was somewhat improved. Thus, the number of functions has been expanded, and the management joystick has become more ergonomic. In addition, the number of programmable buttons, the functions of which the driver himself sets (depends on the configuration) can reach eight. In other words, now there is the opportunity to enter the keys, for example, in the navigation system menu, and activate the automatic parking brake. In addition, this should be said separately, an optional driver's display appeared from the navigation system, about the speed of movement and some other can be displayed directly on the windshield, to the lower part of it. What kind of data to display there depends on the desire, since everything is programmed in the new special menu of the IDRive system. It is not necessary and useful in terms of security at all that you should not be distracted from the road, and the brightness of the projection is independently regulated depending on the degree of illumination.
That is, at least the slightest claims may hardly arise to ergonomics. Naturally, the correct landing behind the wheel is ensured quickly due to the abundance of adjustments not only of the seat, but also to the steering column. Developed lateral support, a successful chair profile, in which you sit, as a glove, all this emphasizes the sporty character of the model.
Dynamics and smoothness
In my deep conviction, one does not contradict one in good cars. This is a special rapture to move quickly, but smoothly; Do not twitch, scaring the surrounding nervous restructures, but as if flowing in the stream, easily occupying the chosen position. All this is the BMW of the 5th series provides. Such a professional driving manner contributes, by the way, and all electronic systems installed in the car. Among them there is something new.
There is an active cruise control system Active Cruise Control (ACC). Brakes can also take part in his work. For example, if the car drives down the slope down, and the reduction of engine thrust does not allow the body to slow enough to keep it in the high -speed framework set by the driver, the brake system is connected. This is followed by a computer and a special radar. I will say more, the system is so smart that it is able to independently choose the speed in the turns if the driver moves on the cruise. For this, ACC was tied to the DSC stabilization system. Sensors supply the computer with information about the corner of turning the steering wheel, about transverse and longitudinal acceleration. Radar, on the other hand, evaluates the steepness of the turn and, as a result, the electronic assistant can slow down the car to smoothly pass the turn, and then accelerate again to a given speed. Very impressive!
But that's not all. Active cruise control can be supplemented by the Stop & Go function. With it, the car can move in traffic jams, completely stopping and accelerating at the right points. True, only if the duration of the stop does not exceed three seconds, otherwise the driver will still have to slightly touch the accelerator pedal in order to re -activate the system. I experienced a similar system only in Mercedes S-class, although in it it is more patient, and withstands not only three-second pauses.
However, in a large city, especially in Moscow, even the most intelligent cruise control is difficult. Therefore, let's say that, if necessary, a sharp slowdown, the driver will have to take control, electronics is not yet ready to cope with extreme situations, although it will certainly warn about their occurrence. The same radar will give a signal to the computer, which, in turn, will respond with an immediate increase in pressure in the brake circuit, preparing for emergency braking.
There are no changes in the suspension, but, thanks to the same electronics, the sensations from running qualities are slightly different. The level of comfort has clearly increased, although at the same time a small vertical buildup appeared. Fortunately, she is barely noticeable.
Now the start of the process is smooth, without a small jerk that was noticeable earlier. That up, that the automatic transmission goes almost imperceptibly for a person. At the same time, to the quickness of the complaints, no electronics still reacts very sensitively to the actions of the driver. Finally, soundproofing materials clearly improved, quietly in the cabin, as in a country house. Inside, calmly even at high speed or in traffic, when a bowing and growling dump truck is nearby.
The dynamics of the 530th remained on top. Still, because the power of the in -line six under the hood increased to 272 hp, and the torque grew by 15 nm. As a result, the acceleration time to 100 km/h was reduced, but the maximum speed is still limited by electronics at a level of 250 km/h.
In a word, the updated five preserved a sporting character, but became more comfortable. And richer from the point of view of equipment and the decoration of the interior.
