What has changed in the restyled Audi A5?
Representing the Audi A5 compartment at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, the Volkswagen concern chef Walter de Silva called him the most beautiful of the cars he created. Not Alfa Romeo GTV or beauty 156, namely Audi A5! But in the world of marketing and culture of mass consumption, even masterpieces are obsolete quickly. Even too fast.

Here is the Audi A5 family, over four years over three modifications, coupe, convertible and large five -door Sportback hatchback, recently visited the designers tablets, presenting in an updated form at the September car dealership in Frankfurt. Fortunately, they did not dare to radically change the appearance of A5 in Audi (or did de Silva did not allow?).

The fives were slightly sharpened by the front headlights, adding fashionable lamps to their design, endowing each Audi model with their own eyes-A-five is something similar to clips; brought into line with the new proprietary style the grille of the radiator, cutting its upper corners; They made more expressive bumpers plastic and restored the rear lights. And that's it.

The new appearance, although restrained, very accurately rejuvenated the whole family. So successful that the previous A5 from the face now seem slightly overweight. The rear lights retained their shape, but their insides changed a little: bright lights appeared here too.

But the larger five was not required. Indeed, the main reason for the current update, in addition to following the intra-corporate life cycle of each model, is by no means outdated appearance, but the need to unify Audi models by iron: A8 A7 A6 A5, and the updated A4 family is about to sell. Moreover, there are significantly more changes in the five technology than design: this is a complete rejection of atmospheric engines and traditional machines, and the transition to an economical power steering, and an updated full -wheel drive system with a differential with crown gears instead of the torsen, and even a new entertainment and even new entertainment and even a new entertainment Communication electronics.


The display of the MMI multimedia system has become clearer and more contrast (resolution - 800 x 600 pixels).

There are several new engines. Two modifications of a three-liter six with a mechanical supercharger, a power of 333 (for charged S5) and 272 horsepower, which replaced the atmospheric V8 on the ESKs and a 3.2-liter V6 on ordinary five, respectively. Plus a completely new four -cylinder 1.8 with turbocharged, with a capacity of 170 horsepower (320 nm) against 160 forces and 250 nm at the predecessor. And with the Volkswagen engine 1.8 TSI, until recently used on Audi models, the new 1.8 is only related to the cylinder block. All the rest of the insides and attachments are their own.

The Audi motor uses a system for changing the phase of gas distribution at the inlet and release, integrated into the head of the cylinder block, the exhaust manifold and an unusual combination of direct and distributed (with nozzles in the manifold) fuel injection. The result is a 30 percent increase in the maximum twisting moment, which was stretched in a flat shelf in the range from 1700 to 3200 revolutions per minute.


Motor 1.8 in the Audi version is equipped simultaneously by direct and distributed fuel injection. The nozzles in the manifold are involved in small loads, helping to save fuel.

Cool engine! With a flat six-cylinder turbo-traaging, accelerating the rather large Audi A5 Sportback to hundreds in 8.2 seconds. It is only a pity that so far this engine is available only with a manual gearbox. Firstly, in Russia, few Audi cars need few people on mechanics, and secondly, there were too stretched programs in this checkpoint: the first is spinning almost 80 kilometers per hour, the second for 120. There are no other complaints about the transmission: intelligible creampies and A very clear, with good selectivity, the gear shift mechanism is not a shutter, but close.


A5 Sportback rides no worse than a compartment version

And the restyled A5 Sportback is still good: assembled, moved, but at the same time very comfortable. The usual spring suspension does not notice the small defects of the asphalt and reliably holds the body of the five in corners, avoiding strong rolls. The cabin is quiet, and the transition to the electric power, if it worsened the feedback on the steering wheel, is completely insignificant. I will say more this is generally one of the best electric burns in the market! Traditional for Audi, the increased ease of the steering wheel here is compensated by excellent information content, and if desired, the steering wheel can be slightly treated by choosing the appropriate settings in the Drive Select system. Although the high will not add the severity is artificial.

Interior


There are few changes in the interior: updated tidy, new decoration materials like A7, and still the previous, asymmetric architecture of the front panel, creating a sense of cockpit.


The MMI block has changed - there are only four basic keys around the rotating selector, and the chassis settings must be changed with a separate button placed above the climate installation.

But no matter how good the new 1.8 is, and the duet of the 272-horsepower compressor engine and the seven-speed pre-sequential robot S Tronic is even better. Fast, powerful and very smooth. In Drive mode, the transmission with two wet clutches on the Audi A5 works perfectly: the programs are upward, that it can be unnoticed by the change of steps only by the dancing of the tachometer arrows. In sport, barely noticeable shocks appear, but thoughtfulness completely disappears with a sharp press on the gas pedal.

Five with such a power unit will be available only with all-wheel drive, and as an option you can order an active rear differential and a low suspension from a sports package! It is even a pity that the presentation did not have a coupe or five-door with this engine, a 272-horsepower convertible that we got for half a day turned out to be too fat. It is 200 kilograms heavier than the compartment and therefore almost half a second more slowly in acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour. And he lacks the hardness of the body on irregularities, the steering wheel trembles slightly in his hands, but in general, the level of comfort is very high, even on optional 19-inch wheels.

In general, a good summer car: a classic convertible with a soft roof and four full -fledged seats in the cabin, gently rumbling and slightly whistling with compressor six and a balanced chassis that combines southern relaxation with German concentration. And for lovers to ride quickly in the range of Audi A5 there is another modification

I'm talking about the loaded line of S5, updated simultaneously with the main family. Forced up to 333 horsepower (440 Nm) a compressor three-liter six, replacing a 354-horsepower atmospheric V8, catapults the S5 compass from a place of up to one hundred kilometers per hour for Supercaric 4.9 seconds! And if earlier, the ESCA was available to choose from either honest mechanics or with a comfortable automatic, now there are no options only a fast SRONIC robot.


The 333-horsepower V6 motor with a mechanical supercharger became a novelty only for the S5 Sportback and S5 compartment version with a body convertible was equipped with this engine before restyling! Like the active rear differential, and the seven -speed robot S Tronic.

Restyling S5, for nothing that it was recovered for about 50 kilograms, faster than its predecessors 0.2 seconds in acceleration to hundreds (and at the machine gun it wins even more than 0.5 seconds), and at the same time almost 20 percent more economically. And the new squad is going even a little better! Insufficient rotation, if you do not overdo it at speed, it is barely noticeable thanks to the active rear differential, spectacularly screwing the car inside the rotation under the thrust, and a more compact and lightweight motor; The adaptive suspension seems too omnivorous for a car with letter S on the body.


Thanks to the fully mechatnate chassis, the owner of the S5 (as simply A5 with the corresponding option) can assemble its perfect car literally by bricks: separately, you can configure the sensitivity of the steering and the rate of fire of the box, the reaction to pressing the gas pedal and the rigidity of the suspension, the algorithm of the active rear differential and the workpiece of the work and Even the volume of the engine sound in version S5!

But what we will definitely miss is the sound of a real atmospheric V8. In Audi, of course, they did everything possible to put the voice of the compressor six on the S5, installing a special fish generator on it, enhancing the pulsation of intake with reflections from the windshield. As a result, in the cabin, the lodging S5 sounds quite juicy, but it is fresh on the outside.

But no matter how you unscrew the settings of the Mechatron S5 chassis into sports, this car cannot be turned into a heated car. In order to wear the title of sports car, this compartment lacks sports anger. Audi S5 is very fast, but still a civilian car. Quite soft and understandable in management, and very friendly. His element is a high -speed highway, not a racing track so that its future owners do not think there.


A beautiful compartment for every day. But there is little sport in it

No, another modification is in charge of real sports in the A5 range: RS 5. Which also updated in the fall, but, fortunately, she retained her crazy-chryploin V8, and a slightly twitching robot, and a fragile chassis and, most importantly, its explosive character.

But if the fresh Audi RS 5 has not yet reached the Russian market, then ordinary five will appear in dealers in December. The basic compartment during restyling rose by 75 thousand rubles, a gym of 71 thousand. Not such a large surcharge for a masterpiece, which has become even a little better.

Alternative
The BMW 3-series with a body compartment in the database is equipped with a 156-horsepower atmospheric engine and costs from 1.45 million rubles. The top 306-horsepower modification with an automaton and all-wheel drive in a rich configuration will cost 2.336 million rubles.

In the range of Mercedes-Benz C-Class now there is also a full compartment. With a 156-horsepower 1.8-liter turbo engine and automatic (this compartment does not have a mechanical checkpoint in Russia), a two-door will cost 1.55 million rubles, and with a 204-horsepower-1.75 million rubles. There is also a diesel for 1.73 million.

The Infiniti G37 compartment is available with only one motor - a 3.7 -liter six -capacity of 333 horsepower and automatically (5.9 to hundreds and 250 kilometers per hour), and in just two versions: for 2.249 and 2.349 million rubles, which differ only in a set options.
