Audi A3 Sportback, before the official presentation, received the nickname Sport-Bag. Perhaps someone will become part of the sports equipment-along with the car-surf and a fitness machine.
 
When Audi declassified the technical data and photos of the five -door version of the Audi A3 - Sportback, a revival arose among journalists: after all, a 200 -horsepower 2.0 TFSI turbo engine will appear on this car. However, it is unlikely that the car would have done so much noise thanks to one (even fundamentally new) motor. The first acquaintance demonstrated to everyone that it would be completely different from a five -door three car - both in design, and in size, and in the filling. Even a simple listing of technical innovations previously not seen in this segment inspired the hope that a very strong fighter would appear on the market, capable of attacking a few competitors.
 
Having studied preliminary information, everyone was looking forward to the opportunity to ride on the new product. And waited.
 
The principality of Monaco was almost perfect for testing a car, the presentation of which so often sounded the word sport. Almost the entire coast is mountains, through the efforts of a person turned into cities, parks and roads. And on these magnificent roads with a beautiful coating, captivating turns on serpentines and dizzying changes in heights with efforts of the same person, the speed is limited to ridiculous numbers, and the sums of fines make the smile instantly fly off the lips ...
 
Contrary to the instructions of our leadership (take the initial version in the line!), My colleague and I (once live!) We took a car with a 2.0 TFSI engine and a mechanical gearbox. However, in Russia, the top version is often the most successful sales in this segment.
 
The car interior is completely devoid of pathos. The lines are swift and easy. Climate control deflectors according to fashion trends are made round and are pronounced elements of a sports image. The materials that have been trimmed with the salon do not leave places for thoughts about saving. Devices, their shape and location, are convenient and optimal, but somehow not remembered (apparently, Audi has already invented its bicycle). On the central console - a double -zone climate control unit, the header of the audio system and the navigator monitor. The main detail in the cabin is a new steering wheel. The shape of its central part repeats the shape of the radiator lattice, the brightest element of the new corporate style of Audi.
 
The chairs are moderately tough, they hold the body perfectly, not allowing each more or less serious turn to bow. In the second row, there were instantly those millimeters that were added to the size of the car. The living space of passengers increased in all main directions - for the legs (+40 mm) and in width (+ 29 mm).
 
To settle behind the wheel of a premium car has long been a familiar and very pleasant activity, since everything that is needed is equipped with electric drives. Being started, the engine almost does not give out its activity. However, it is worth playing a gas pedal, as a pleasant unnecessary rumble is heard somewhere behind, which is a light whistle of a turbine. The clutch pedal is somewhat tighter than on civilian cars, and with a rather large course. But the engine is picked up at the very bottom, and it takes some time to get used to it. But then switching with intensive acceleration is carried out much faster.
 
The gearbox is characterized by a successful set of gear rates, which makes accelerated gear quite long. But the main thing is that I would like to advise the legal department of Audi AG is to patent the sound that is heard when the next transmission is turned on. By God, he deserves that! This corporate clan resembles the sound of a KP of sportsmen, but in an aristocratic manner.
 
The first kilometers driving a new car in unfamiliar places are usually quite nervous. Nevertheless, encouraged by the curious glances of local residents, you quickly study the charter of the local monastery and ten minutes later you can already go for some road hooligan or, at worst, a tourist.
 
Having somehow dealt with the intakes of urban and suburban forks (honestly, Europeans are too fond of circular interchanges), we escaped into the mountains. Here you can already burn the rubber with multi-kilometer Warm-up.
 
Acceleration from a place requires clear operation of gas and clutch. Its intensity deserves the description using sports terms - spurt, jerk.
 
Sportback suspension, despite the almost classic design, has pronounced sports characteristics. The front here is the usual McPherson, and the back is a new independent 4 -crap suspension. The back is especially curious, since the accepted design made it possible to significantly reduce weight. The levers are divided by functional affiliation. The couple is responsible for lateral accelerations and, accordingly, for controllability. Longitudinal - for comfort, which in a car of this class should not raise any questions.
 
An impressive size of the rollers drink a turn over a bend. How nice, when the road is not an arrow, but a set of turns of varying degrees of coolness with a beautiful coating! In such conditions, it is very easy to assess the advantages and disadvantages of the steering system. In our case, it is an electric amplifier that thinks whenever the driver turns the steering wheel. If at parking speeds the force on the steering wheel becomes minimal, then on the highway the steering wheel is filled with elastic feedback, allowing you to clearly adjust the trajectory.
 
The brakes deserve a separate word. Sportback is the first car in its class with an adaptive brake system. When braking under normal conditions, the amplifier provides excellent pedal responsiveness, using an effort in a ratio of 1: 5. When the system understands that braking occurs in emergency mode, the force instantly increases to 1: 8.5.
 
One of the greatest injustices of our life is that when you feel good, time flies rapidly and imperceptibly. And vice versa. In our case, two days (or an hour?) Flew like seconds. On the way to our homeland, we, against the usual, did not discuss the prospects for the novelty in the Russian market: most likely, they are the brightest, because Sportback has a lot of qualities and options, hitherto in the corresponding segment of unprecedented ones.
 
2.0 TFSI
 
For the first time in the world, the advantages of the fuel injection system of FSI and the turbocharger are united in this engine.
 
2.0 TFSI was created on the basis of 2.0 FSI - an ordinary atmospheric engine. A lot of them are related, but in the turbocharged version some parameters were changed to increase reliability in accordance with the increased power of the turbocharged unit.
 
The block is made of a particularly durable cast iron GG 25, which successfully resists a large pressure and has excellent acoustic characteristics. Two balancing shafts rotating twice as faster than the crankshaft, compensate for all the inertial forces of the engine. The result is complete acoustic comfort and the lack of vibration.
 
The inlet collector is made of high -tech plastic. The motor has a compression of 10.5: 1, which is more common on atmospheres.
 
A curious comparison: surpassing the engine 1.8 by only 10 % in volume, the new motor has an increased torque by 20 % (280 N. M in the range from 1800 to 5000 min-1).
