Acura RDX test drive since 2012

Acura RDX test drive: Hidden I-VTEC + Turbo capabilities

The new prototype Acura RDX was presented at the International Motor Show in Detroit. The main attention was paid to his I-VTEC and turbine system, but the main joy, of course, was that finally this car entered the United States market. To verify the success of the I-VTEC + Turbo formula, we conducted a test drive of the car.
In sunny California, Acura RDX made a great impression on us. A fitted silhouette of the body, large wheels everything looked very expressive. The car interior simply radiates a sense of comfort: leather seats, huge free space ... You turn the ignition key, the dashboard lights up, and under the central speedometer 160 miles (~ 250 km/h) you are welcomed by the inscription of Welcome (drowning out the engine, you will see goodbye).
The car is equipped with a new 4-cylinder in-line engine with two camshafts (DOHC) with a working volume of 2300 cubic centimeters with the I-VTEC and turbocharging system. An idle motor works at confident 700 rpm.
Having moved the lever of the five -speed automatic transmission to position D, we touch the place. Acceleration is very confident and smooth. When the arrow of the tachometer approaches 3000 rpm., We begin to feel the hiss of the turbine with the whole body. And the most interesting sensations come after 5000 revolutions.
We switch the gearbox to the sports mode and test the turbine. At the first, second and third speed, somewhere in the back there is a very strong acceleration from about 3,000 to 5500 revolutions. Having overcome the line of 6,000 about 6000/min., The turbine reaches the limit of its capabilities, and we begin to lose momentum. VTEC itself is a good system, and in combination with the turbine it gives just an excellent result: the heavy weight of the body is absolutely not felt.
As for handling, everything is perfect here, as always with Honda. Stability is felt even when turning at high speed.
Some discomfort is felt only in the case of an uneven road, since the salon is very quiet and the sound of shaking is very well heard.
By the way, in view of the growing prices for gasoline, Acura pleases with a very economical fuel consumption.
