Mercury Mystique (Mercury "Mystic") appeared in 1995, replacing an outdated TOPAZ. The model received new appearance and interior in 1997. Despite the initial criticism for the lack of space on the rear seats, the 1998 model received more space from behind by 3 cm. Mystique is the version of the Ford's global car, which also called Ford Contour in North America and Ford Mondeo in other countries. Mystique looks elegant by the CONTOUR model and is more luxurious. In the Mercury line, the model takes place more compact alternative to popular Sable.
