The premiere of the family took place in 1997, and the firstborn became the CLK320 version equipped with the first serial V6 from Mercedes. Borrowing many chassis elements with C-class and design elements in E-class, CLK was created to compete in a class of luxurious coupe, and CLK320 Cabriolet and CLK430 Coupe with the V8 engine complemented a line in 1998. The second generation of the model appeared in 2002, and the new convertible - in 2003.
