The appearance in 1990 models Ford Explorer (Ford Explorer) designated a change in the image of the SUV class cars: now it was not specialized utilitarian transport, but a well-equipped car for the whole family. Explorer became not only the bestseller of the segment, but also constantly attended the top ten most-selling cars of all classes. During the years of its existence, the model acquired many rising luxury and comfort of the option, and the appearance in 1996 versions with the V8 engine pleased buyers who wanted to combine the abilities of the tractor and the SUV space. The 1998 version received a new interior and exterior, as well as optional side airbags, a pneumatic suspension, automatically adjusting the body position depending on the load, rear ultrasonic parking sensor, notifying the driver about the presence of foreign objects behind the car during the movement by reverse. In 2000, a hybrid version of Explorer Sport Trac with an open body on the site of the traditional luggage compartment appeared.
